The Oswego County Fair is an annual fair held in the city of Oswego, New York, which features many different agricultural events throughout the summer and into the fall. It is held on the grounds of the Oswego County Fairgrounds in the middle of the county, with a fairground section.
History
The current fairgrounds was built in the 1860s, replacing the original grounds (at the present-day Lakeside Park) on the edge of the city. The fair was first held on the present grounds in 1867 and has been held there every year since. Originally the Oswego County Agricultural Society, it became the Oswego County Fair in 1879. The fair is still overseen by the society, which began as an umbrella group for various agricultural societies throughout the county. The current fairgrounds was designed by Robert G. Voorhees.
The fairgrounds is now owned and operated by the Oswego County Fairgrounds and Fairgrounds Development Company, which includes the society, the county fair and the Oswego County Almanac as tenants. The fairgrounds also includes the private Lakeside Park, an amusement park operated by the society.
Notable events
The fair has many major events each year. The largest is the Oswego County Fair (normally held in June), which features livestock, agricultural events, entertainment and exhibits. Other annual events include the junior rodeo, the junior small-animal show, the junior fun walk, the senior rodeo, the senior small-animal show, the senior fun walk, the junior market, the senior market, the summer rodeo, the fall rodeo, the four-wheeling and the grounds judging.
In addition to the county fair, the society also holds a wide variety of smaller events, including antique car shows, a dog show, tractor shows, tractor pullings, tractor pull seasonals, tractor pulls, horse shows, and summer concerts, which include a variety of musical acts.
